The process for selection

Awardees will be determined by a comprehensive, credible process comprising the following stages:

• Nominations – both self and third party – will be invited from the public through media notices across print, electronic and internet news media across Africa. The organizers and their collaborating institutions (FEWACCI, BCA, and the newly formed African Chamber of Trade) will also provide nominations based on their own knowledge and research although their nominations will not subsequently receive preferential treatment of any kind during the unfolding awards selection process.

• Nominations received will then be subjected to a comprehensive verification process by our dedicated research consultants contracted specifically for this purpose. At this stage clarifications may be requested from some nominees on the contents of their nominations. Any nomination found to deliberately include materially significant false claims/information to enhance their nominations would be disqualified. The research consultants would then assess the contents of each nomination against the established criteria for awards selection and eliminate any nomination that clearly fails to meet the criteria. Nominations that meet the criteria would then be put on a short-list.

• The short-listed nominations would then be forwarded to our specially constituted Awards Selection Jury, comprising eleven (11) members drawn from various relevant disciplines and organizations ie the media, contemporary historians, other pan African personal accomplishment assessment organizations, multilateral professional/business associations, multilateral development and finance institutions and representation from the organizers, as well as from FEWACCI, BCA , IBC and ACT as collaborating institutions. The Jury will meet regularly by virtual means to assess the nominations for each delineated category and ultimately agree on the winners by consensus following successive rounds of nominee elimination by voting.

TERMS FOR RECEIVING AN AWARD

Winners of awards under this scheme will not be required to pay fees of any sort for their awards. Indeed, the only term attached to award conferment is that the winner attends the awards conferment event in person, or at least sends a delegation to collect the award. This condition is to ensure that the awards conferment event itself is a success befitting of this ground breaking awards scheme.
